The Evening News October 21, 1901 Uncle Eli King, as he was familiarly called, was born in Camden, Geauga County, Ohio, July 6th, 1820. June 2nd, 1842, he was united in marriage to Miss Clarina Eaton. The first year of their wedded life was spent in Hamden, Ohio from there they moved to Sumpter, then called Kingston, Sauk County, Wis. The remaining fifty-eight years of his life, were spent on the farm where they located on their arrival. Six children were born to them, four of whom, have preceeded him to the Better Land. He was taken suddenly ill, Oct 6th and although everything was done that kind and loving hands could do, the dear old man breathed his last shortly before ten o’clock, a.m. Tuesday, Oct 15th. He leaves a wife, one daughter, Mrs. Myrtie Pobjoy, and one son, Sylvester E. King, to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate husband and father. Mr. King was a devoted Christian having joined the M.E. Church in 1863. Ever ready with a kind word and pleasant smile for every one, he will be greatly missed, not only in his home and in the church but in the social circle in which he so loved to move. Rev. Ford of the M.E. church assisted by Rev. W.J. Turner of Prairie du Sac, conducted the funeral services which were held at his late home on Thursday afternoon, at 2 o’ clock. His remains were laid to rest in the Pioneer Cemetery at Kern’s Corners. Contributed by Jill Fyall Livesey
