The Reedsburg Times Reedsburg, Wisconsin Friday, April 11, 1913 TAIT Thomas Tait was born in Philadelphia, January 27, 1842. At the age of 12 years he came to this state with his parents who settled on a farm in Ironton. In a log cabin on this farm the boyhood life of Thomas Tait began, he grew to manhood, recalled the days of pioneer hardships and privations, and helped his parents battle with the daily toil that confronted the early pioneers. On the 29th of September, 1872, Mr. Tait was married to Anna McIntyre of Mauston. They remained on the old homestead where they have always made their home, and where after a continuous residence of 59 years Mr. Tait passed away on Wednesday afternoon, April 2, 1913, having suffered a stroke of apoplexy early in the winter. To this union were born four children, Mary, afterward Mrs. Harmon Fry, who died July 13, 1911, John and Thomas, who live on the home farm, and Robert, who has been attending school at Peoria, Ill. Mr. Tait came of a family of eleven children of whom there remain four sisters, Mrs. Mary Devereux, Mrs. Lizzie McCoy, Mrs. Jane Fuller, all of Reedsburg, Mrs. Sarah Gerken of Miranda, S. D., and one brother, Robert, of LaValle. Mr. Tait enlisted at the opening of the Civil War but was rejected because of poor health. He was an indulgent parent, kind neighbor, generous and just in his business dealings. He was active in the old Oak Hill schoolhouse services in pioneer days, and near the last when too weak to pray he asked his life companion to intercede the Father for him. Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at the home and at the Methodist church in this city, conducted by Rev. C. L. Clifford. A large number of sorrowing friends were present at the funeral services and escorted the remains to their final resting place in Greenwood Cemetery. Contributed by Darlene Penisten
